This is for you newbies and YN's. A good example of what to sta img228.jpg y away from. This offer comes as inserts in catalogs and bulk card packs. It requires a credit card and subscription where they charge you every month with similar prices for these when you can buy them on Ebay for around $21.00 and free shipping. We are here to help, teach and guide you.

Practically every word on this ad is a lie. "Most treasured collectible coin"? "$70 value"? I especially love the "Pay just $4.95 to cover p&h" in slightly-lighter-than-the-background blue font.

The only thing that's actually the unqualified truth is "One ounce 99.9% pure silver."

BUT...they give you a FREE $40.00 value hardwood box also. Ha!

Lol... I saw a dealer a couple shows back selling one of those rosewood boxes that held 4 or 5 golden dollars (I forget if they were Sacajawea or presidential dollars), all ANACS MS65 IIRC, for $35. I considered buying it, figuring I'd be buying $10 in coins, $10 in plastic to protect the coins, and $15 worth of box. Unfortunately, I took too long making my rounds and missed him on the way out (it was the last day of the show).

I never buy anything whether it's T.V. (mostly cause I'm too young to. lol) and/or through the mail. My grandmother has spent a TON of money on overpriced coins for me cause she thought they were "cool" through the mail. I know she did/does it out of kindness but I eventually told her to save her money and let me buy my coins.

Time to put a little "Bug" in grandmothers ear and suggest an ebay gift certificate so you can buy the ones you want. Then show her what her money purchased. It would be like graduating from middle school to high school. I think she would be proud of what you had accomplished.

I would do that but....... I don't think she even knows what Ebay is. lol (Seriously, not kidding)

$42.00 USD for an American Silver Eagle. Man people have no conscience and can sleep comfortably every night stealing money from un-informed people. So sad.

That's not hard to side step...they sell the certificates at most major chain stores now. Tell her about your Coin Talk adventures here and introduce her to ebay by telling her what great coins you see there. But just don't tell her about getting you a gift certificate, just that they are available so you don't have to worry about seeming ungrateful about all of her good heartedness in the past. Just an idea. I'm sure your grandma's money came to her just as hard as yours did and she will probably appreciate knowing her money was going to be well spent if she decided to do this.
