I recently got into this coin searching and bought some new rolled coins from the bank. I opened the new nickel roll to check them out and found some unusual marks. I came across this site to get anyone's opinion and that it would help me in identifying it.

On the reverse side there looks to be a sharp point like a thorn sticking from the "S" in STATES. I have three others that look similar. They were all in a row including others that appear to have cracks running across the STATES lettering as well. I can show those once I get more information on what this could be.

    Thank you,
    Jeremy

Look specifically inside the top loop of the first 'S' in states.

    IMO, it's a die chip.

First, welcome to the neighborhood, Jeremy!

It could also be the result of a scratch or gouge on the face of the die, but without a better close-up, I'm just guessing.

I'm thinkin' 'die chip'..........welcome to the forum Jeremy. :)

Jbruce.........First thing I thought of, when I saw this handle, was Jack Bruce. Don't know how old you are Jeremy, or if you're into old rock, but that name was paramount when I was a kid ages ago..........:)

Thank you for the answer. I do need a better loupe or camera. I have 13 that look just like that thorn sticking out of the "S". I also have others with a line that is in the same area on the STATES but they can be seen through the top portion of the TAT. I have a few that go left and a few that go just right and some that go both directions. I also have others that are minor but still visible on the 2015 P nickel.

I'm not seeing anything special, but I wanted to give you advice on your photography. Put the loop right up to the lens of your camera, just like you would your eye. The loupe should cover the entirety of the lens, it'll get you photos as clear as you see them and make it easier for us. Here's an example of one I took with my loupe directly on my camera:
