Sorry guys, I'm a curious creature...could someone explain how the date looks shifted on this dime? I know the picture quality isn't the best, but I see what looks like a shift of the date? How does this occur?

    Thanks again guys!

    Hi, Rachael!

Yes, it is a little blurry. I noticed all of those striations pointing southeast through the field. Those are indicative of die erosion. Perhaps that is the cause.

Ain't the best but it serves well enough here. :)

Dies age in more than one way. Metal doesn't just wear away - it migrates under the repeated 150-ton hammer blows of striking. This can manifest itself in what sometimes looks very much like doubling on the coin.
