Got 5 of my sets today....finally...took 8 days with FedEx Slowpost. Inspected the reverse proof coins and found this one glaring at me. None of the ones I have would ever make it to a 70 grade just because of little stamping defects you can see with a loop and I am sure the graders would see rotating the coin under light but they are still nice coins. Would love to have a pile of 70s to sell because I think they well command high prices, although I have noticed the sets have gone down some on Ebay lately. So here is the pic of the bird poop in the eye Truman coin!! I took the top of the capsule off for the picture so it's not on the plastic capsule!!

  3. List it on eBay as the "rare spotted glasses variety" and the bidiots will reward you handsomely...lol. TC

That's the dilemma with these. Who on ebay would buy such a glaring defect? Not me.

So if you're flipping, better to leave them unopened.

I accept returns on almost everything I sell... except stuff like this. I do unopened box, and say if you open it, you keep it.

That's the problem with eBay. Sellers use stock pics or pics that don't show that kind of detail, so if buying an open box raw coin/set, expect problems.

Thanks for the pic, I feel a lot better about my sets now - hope your other four look better.

  10. Wow, all 5 of mine look flawless. Of course, 4 are going to new homes and they will surely be pleased. TC

The other four are much nicer but not 70s. I called the mint and got a return label so I don't have to pay return shipping for the one. I'll just get my money back on the one I am sending back. I just don't understand how one like that gets through the "quality control" because it's easy to see.

WHY would you send it back?!? You will not get a replacement. You can sell even damaged ones for a profit.

Why does the mint shows not available for sale?

On another forum they said they were up for over an hour. Returns? Cancellations? I know I had 3 orders cancelled, so those were some of them, lol.

An evil thought just came to mind........watch them (mint) offer a four coin presidential reverse proof set (with Truman and the remaining three) close to the end of this year. Nothing to stop them (mint) from doing so. That could be disastrous for anyone who is gambling on the low mintage, future appreciation of the coins themselves.

Or am I giving them an idea?

Oh I'm sure ole StateQuarterGuy will come along and point out the line which says: "The 2015 Coin and Chronicles Set includes a 2015 Harry S. Truman $1 Reverse Proof Coin minted in Philadelphia (found only in this set!)," which would prevent such a thing.

As for hurting "future appreciation"? I don't really believe that the coin has any future appreciation as much as it has a "now appreciation" due to it's limited availability to the flipping market and those that really wanted to flip these. Any "gambling" paid off already unless someone happened to buy one for $200 hoping that they could flip it for $250 in 6 months (which I just don't think they'll be able to.)

Could the US Mint do such a thing as a 4 coin Reverse Proof Set. They sure could. They can really do anything they want since they are the government and cannot be sued. The law allows them to produce whatever collector coins they want.
