Could have been a hit with a mintage of 40k, sold out within 1hour.

    50k...took weeks.

I sent mine back. The dollars had been handled very badly. The rims of the coins looked like they had been dragged around a parking lot. I wish I had taken pictures. Ah, hindsight.

I sent one of mine back for a replacement had a nick on the rev of the medallion so my replacement came medallion looks great but the RP dollar has brown spots on the rev rim. Contacted mint on Thursday it was still available so they said they would send a replacement. They sent me a UPS return label, have it all packed up ready to send back, now it is unavailable.

I bought the 2 for my Grand-kids now what to do keep this one and just live with it, or send it back.

Mint was in a tough place. Limit the mintage to 17,000 like the other ones and hear howls from the collecting community, or increase mintages and have the issue flop long term. The mint still needs a long term better way of allocating these issues. I still believe they should be allocated first to only retail customers who have ordered a minimum amount per year for say 3 years. That way the customers who are the heart of the mint's yearly profit get rewarded. Anything left can be offered to others. For full disclosure, I am NOT one of the ones the mint would then offer these to, so this suggestion is not a self serving idea.

Kennedy C&C is listed as "Currently Unavailable" (as are the IKE and HST C&C).
"We are currently out of this item, but more may be available later. Provide your email using the “REMIND ME” button and we will let you know when we are taking orders again."

Which reads differently from coins listed as "Sold Out".
"This item is no longer in stock and is no longer available for sale."

As Larry noted, the medallion is good looking. To my eye, silver seems to produce better definition than the alloy used for the dollar coin.

I am sitting on a decent amount of these, so I hope this helps them sale better. I have been selling mind for about a $5 profit after fees/shipping.

The two sets I returned will soon become available for sale.
Think twice before ordering these now.

When is the last one released?

I guess I'll just keep the one I was going to send back for replacement. If they happen to have any left "returns" I might get a set worse than the one I'm sending back. I think the MINT needs to work on their quality control. Have been buying from the MINT since 2008 & this is the 1st year I had to return items for a replacement. Of course the 2010-P Hot Springs 5 oz Silver Quarter I did not see the ripple edge until recently when I was looking at the collection a little closer.

When I asked the Mint if they resale returned coins, I was told they do not.
Perhaps this has changed since I've talked with them.

Call again, get a different CS representative and you'll get a different answer.

They say that but there is evidence that they do. There have been cases of people receiving sets with notes inside from previous owners explaining why they were returned.

Liar, liar, pants on fire. Remember back in 2014 with the Hall of Fame Baseball commems? They sold out real quick and were high in demand. Then, in December of that year (for a very narrow window of opportunity) they all of a sudden became available again.......I ordered two. This one was definitely returned by someone seeking perfection. I'm happy with it though (note the two small scratches above United).

How do you KNOW that? The fact that the coin has a small defect does NOT prove it was sent out, returned and then sold again.

Perhaps it was the note enclosed:

"I am returning this ugly set".

Oh , yeah that would do it. Funny he seems to have forgotten to have mentioned the note. :)
