For the last few months since I've been looking closer at my pocket change I always just passed through all my Shield Pennies quickly. I don't know why but just never took a liking to them I guess. I came across this 2014 though and something caught my attention. Not sure what it is. Anything special?
It always helps if you specify exactly what you think may be wrong instead of making others guess. Chris
I apologize. I am pretty new to this. It looks as if there are 3 vertical lines above the T in CENT and the scroll wrap around above the T in CENT looks a little off. Also next to the 3 vertical lines on the left there is another glob but I can't quite make if it's a letter or just a glob. Once again. I apologize.
So the 3 vertical lines above the T are from being banged around? They are above surface and look pretty much uniformed. There is also no color change. Dang it. Thought I had something here.
Since you found this in circulation, there are an infinite number of possibilities that could have caused this, but if you examine both sides of the coin, you won't find any device that would correspond to the marks. Chris
Jeremy- a couple of things to look for on the Shield Cents...Die cracks at the top left of the shield, some with die chips in same area. These were common on the 2010's but still might be collectible to you. Also a die crack at the O in One on the more recent Shield cents. Also a die crack at the forward portion of Lincoln's hair. The more recent cents are only showing pre die crack impressions on the shield. Not really collectible except for maybe one to keep to show in a collection.
