I found a 2014 P dime with two lines on the front of the coin, can anyone tell me what this might be. Thank you in advance for any help Rob
It looks raised to me as well. Maybe just the image. I don't see a cut that would have raised the metal. It's an interesting coin to me.
My first impression is that it's a struck-through. Perhaps try more images, and stop trying to crop around the coin, just do it on a neutral background.
I’m with damaged, maybe with a chisel. You can see some witness marks on the reverse. Probably on a soft surface when punched.
It does look quite similar to a strike-through. Hopefully a close-up picture can be posted, to see whether or not the "I" goes through the sunk-in line. If so, that is one unique error! If not, it would be some weird PMD for sure.
Can a piece of debris like a wire not overlap both the die and the collar? As far as I know, the collar only "contains" the edge of the coin, not the rim. So in the above diagram, imagine a wire laying across the collar when a planchet goes in, or one stuck to the reverse die and protruding or wrapped around it. Is that not going to get struck into the rim of the coin? I'm not saying it is or it isn't, I'm only trying to understand why you're ruling it out based on "the collar would contain the rim."
