2014 New Years Resolution - Finish my Wheat Collection

I have completed several collections including IHC, Linocln Memorial, Jefferson Nickels, Roosevelt dimes, Washington Quarters, Franklin Half Dollars, Kennedy Half Dollars, Peace Dollars, Ike Dollars, SBA dollars, SAC dollars, and Presidential Dollars. I only need the 1909-S VDB to finish my wheat collection and the 1916-D to finish my Mercury collection. My New Years resolution is to finally get the 1909-S VDB. What is your New Year's resolution? I've added a pic of my first completed collection (IHC). OK; it isn't pretty but it is complete; at least according to this Whitman folder.

Well I disagree, that IHC collection is pretty.

My resolution is to get my son interested in collecting coins again. He was very interested, has a pretty nice collection and can grade pretty well... but then he discovered video games. He turns 13 tomorrow (he's my little Christmas miricle), so maybe I should just chalk it up to a phase.

 

Try limiting his video game time.

BTW this is coming from a 14 year old who LOVES gaming, so believe me I know a bit about this stuff.

 

My step sons have been playing the new voice activated X-box for the past few hours. It has voice activation and everything. You can have worse habits, trust me.

 

I would move into the classics.

Seated Liberty coins, several types exist.
Capped Bust coins, again several denominations exist.

I think you will find collecting the classics more challenging than the 20th century coins. Especially once you get into Overton, Newcomb and other variation scales.

 

And let us not forget the many varieties of gold coins.

 

Start collecting gold coins.

 

I agree, there is something about a full album that makes it beautiful even if all the coins aren't necessarily lookers. Great work and good luck on your goal!

i have been trying to up keep m,ysets once you complete one the easiest thing is to up keep them.. but after a while with all the new stuff that comes out.. you get lost..

 

My 2014 resolution? Add more to my Classic Commems collection. I need a Hawaiian and a Lafayette and a Gettysburg and all of the gold.

I'll settle for the silver.

Oh, and a Cincinnati too.

 

I'd like to finish my set of Washingtons and start dabbling in anything and everything. For collecting, I have not purchased anything but Washies for a half decade. It's taken some serious discipline and time to fill 209 holes on a coin by coin basis.

 

The Washington's are fun to collect. Here is my complete set of Washington silver circulating coins from 32 to 64 (at least according to my coin books).

 

Drop back to the 19th Century and expand my Mexico collection. Also upgrade my Raw VF cleaned No Motto seated Liberty Dollar with a Slabbed VF no problem coin.

 

I am a type lover myself, I would do a 7070 or any number of the other type sets available out there from Intercept Shield to Whitman.

I don't think my new years goal will be to finish my 7070 even though I am currently 17-18 coins away (I have 17 holes but one coin was kind of a filler a Large Cent for the matron head that would be VG with details with rim dings that I found for $2). Problem is though those 18 coins are the more pricey ones like the 2 seated liberty dollars (I already have my trade dollar), 20 cent piece, the 3 half cents, capped bust halves and quarter. In the grades I want those last 18 will likely cost me $1750 almost as much as I have spent for the first 58 (modern coins really drop the overall spending on the first 30 or so for the set that's for sure).

Its definitely my goal to have my 7070 finished by the end of 2015 for sure, then to decide if I want to do the gold page.

 

1.) Have all my Lincoln cent collection filled from 1920-present
2.) Start a Washington Quarter collection
3.) Educate myself on Barber series coinage, and if feeling up to it dabble in a couple coins, though not get lost and dedicate to a series...yet.

 

Wish I could complete my set of Kennedy half dollars but I don't see that happening in the near future, about 100 left to go.

But then again, the hunt is the fun part and as someone else told me, “If it was easy then anyone could do it” ……

 

Brother, you are on the cusp of completing this one. I look forward to seeing it in its entirety.

 

I love commemoratives, I have always wanted to do the classic set but that is one heck of a set to tackle for now I have been just doing the classics I really like Stone Mountain. I have almost completed the moderns (just need the 4 96 Olympic ones Swimming, Basketball, Baseball and Soccer).

 

I'm doing the short (50 coin) silver set. If one were to tackle the entire series you'd be talking 144 coins and that's just so beyond me at this point.

 

I love them though but you are right they are quite the set to tackle. I started a modern commemorative dollar set too but only got to like 10 before I decided I needed to focus on my 7070 before branching out again. I have been working on the 7070 for the better part of a decade now and I just want to finish it then I will get into other sets again. Want to do a Franklin set again and the silver dollar date set as well. I do love having those comms then and would love to the classic set just want to finish my 7070 first.
