    1. Good for investment - 5 oz ATB Smoky Mountains - ordering these with a subscription to get a 10% discount will result in a price of about $140. It is a popular park and has the bonus of being the first issue of the year with pent up demand to help it sell out quickly. With a silver value of $100 or so, there is little downside risk in the near term. (Long term I expect silver to continue to drop, but slowly.)

    2. Best design - Baseball commemoratives. They picked the right designs to make use of the concave/convex coin shape.

    3. Most popular - silver eagle proof. This isn't my opinion, it is a fact.

    4. What I like the most - I can't be sure until they come out with the details. But the special set planned with multiple Kennedy 50th anniversary coins has a lot of potential. (Proof, reverse proof, enhanced uncirculated, Bicentennial reverse, original design with more detailed hair, etc.) A good combination of finishes in nice packaging will make a really neat set.

I usually don't bet on any of the mint products being a good investment, but I will probably pick up my usual mint set, proof set, and the baseball hall of fame coin may find its way into my collection.

I agree with bg on his #1. What I am looking forward to the most this year are the Smoky Mountains and Everglades fancy pucks. I like the designs of both. This would get the best design award from me and also the coins I like most.

I have no interest in the Civil Rights coin.

I am looking forward to the baseball commemorative because it is so unique.

I have no interest in the Kennedy set. I try to stay away from coins with politicians on them and was never a big fan of Kennedy.

The ASEs are usually the most popular, God only knows why and it will probably be the same this year. I don't collect them, but many on here do.

As far as what will be a good investment, I wouldn't want to say because I only collect coins for enjoyment, not gain.

  6. If the Kennedy set has something unique to the series, such as a reverse proof, high relief or an enhanced version, it will certainly be a winner (maybe more so if the series ends).

I love baseball and will certainly buy the baseball coins but so will everyone else. This one has the potential though to be like the 2001 silver buffalo commemoratives...high mintage but huge demand keeping the price high over time.

The ATB 5 ounce coins are a decent deal with the 10% discount. However, I still like the bullion version more for appreciation. The bullion mintages are not much higher than the collector version in most cases, and they cost much less. Over time, some of the bullion versions may also get melted increasing demand and future value. Survival estimates for some of the bullion versions may end up being lower then the collector versions.

I don't invest in mint products. I collect mint product. Every once in a great while I get lucky, and an issue that the mint has produced becomes popular and pricey.

The Civil Rights commem doesn't strike my fancy all that much, but I need it for my collection. The Silver Eagles are tied with both popularity and best design (my mind).
I'm really looking forward to the Hall of Fame roll out........

Where can i find the design for the Smokey Mountain pucks?

Also, I was just on the product release schedule and was confused by this item to be released in May:

2014 United States Mint Limited Edition Silver Proof Set $139.95

    Why?!? Whats special about it?

2014 United States Mint Limited Edition Silver Proof Set

  10. Just fancy packaging. Same coins as annual silver proof set, except has proof silver eagle instead of proof nickel and cent. Oh and don't forget it comes with a hefty mark-up too. TC

I hope the Kennedy series doesn't end. If it's not broken don't fix it. Who will they put on the half then? Or the mint could just stop producing halves all together if they decide to kill Kennedy, ( again ).

Why does it have to be a "who"? We had coins without the mugs of politicians on them for many years in the U. S. What would be wrong with various national symbols or artistic images? Without a doubt, the most beautiful coins we have had in this country have not been those decorated with the facial profile of a politician.

I wholly agree they should revert back to a Lady Liberty type or some other design other than a politician. They tried with the Sac, but we all see how popular the dollar coin is with the general public. Some folks I run into still think they are made of real gold!

However we know most likely the mint won't do that. They'll stick another deceased president on it or something. But I vote no more minting halves if they discontinue JFK.

I'll go with the collector puck's followed by the silver eagles (all of the variations).
