So I keep a couple coin books in my safe I got a pretty big safe anyways I I just checked on the coins they're all turning toned everything they're all getting purple and green and it's killing me I don't know if it's going to be a good thing or a bad thing but these coins are in such good condition I was saving them to see what's going to happen with the shield Penny's and now look at tone 2014 one just sold for 5000
Looks like natural toning that may have been slowly advanced by the book. It's nothing severe, and while it would degrade the coin to red-brown, your coin would have to be a really high grade before it would make a difference. Plus, the toning market is real, so you may have gained something here!
I tell these guys on coin talk all the time I'm in a low area I'm in Florida my yard is like a swamp so everything is like wet everything is humid here everything turns to green or or brown
Just a friendly hint. I notice that the staples on your holders are still raised on the back. This can easily scratch other coins, even those in holders, if they slide across them. Always use pliers to mash the staples totally flat to keep that from happening! Also, it is really hard to keep copper from toning, especially if you live in a humid area. In my experience, if the coin is very clean to begin with and is tightly in a 2x2 holder it can stay bright for decades, but if it has already been exposed to chemicals in the air before you put in in a holder, it is unavoidably going to tarnish or worse sooner or later.
Florida is almost an island, so humidity will destroy your copper or zinc based coins given enough time IMO. But you can eliminate it in an enclosed container with silica ( absorbs moisture) from Amazon Look up "Dehydrating packs" such as below, also you can greatly reduce effects on copper by using sticky sheets of copper foil and rough the exposed surface occasionally so moisture reacts with it rather than your copper coins. You can line the inside walls of the Safe. 45 Pcs 5 Gram Silica Gel Packs, Transparent Desiccant, Desiccant Packets for Storage, Moisture Packs for Spices Jewelry Shoes Boxes Electronics Storage, Food Safe, and Overall Pick Kirecoo Copper Tape, Copper Foil Tape (2inch X 33 FT) Copper Foil with Conductive Adhesive for Guitar, EMI Shielding, Crafts, Electrical Repairs and Grounding
Green can be very beneficial to a coin. There is the chance for toning to gain a coin all kinds of money, as long as graders don't think it's AT. Natural toning + eye appeal + good condition = $$$$!
My sister lives in Florida about an hour drive from Tampa. She has a problem with high humidity also. Her solution is using a product called Damp Rid. It pulls the moisture out of the air. She also puts silicon packets in her dresser drawers so clothes don't mildew. If you're worried about coins spotting from humidity, give it a try.
