2013 Japanese 100 yen

    this coin was given to me by my niece after her trip to japan
    it has seen use no doubt but overall still a nice coin
    not sure if I got the date right but I just guessed

    Looks correct. Heisei Era started in 1989, so just add the year number to 1988.
    1988 + 25 = 2013.

    I always pick up 50 and 100 yen coins in junk bins if I see them because
    they are usually worth more in face value than the junk bin price! Not that
    I am likely to fly to Japan to spend several pounds of pocket change.

    I used to spend these coins in video arcades all the time when I lived in Japan in
    1996. Video games were almost a dollar per play, although at a few discount
    locations you could play for a 50 yen coin.

    I hope that you enjoy your keepsake from your niece!

    yeah the coin sits in my collection now may not be worth much but it was a gift and those are always keepers IMHO
