Hello, I'm new to collecting coins and I noticed that on ebay several people are bidding over $50 on $25 boxes face value, uncirculated pennies. Is there a specific reason for this? I'm asking cause I work at a bank and have unlimited access to getting circulated and uncirculated coins.
Mint boxes of 2012 cents are kind of hard to get. If you can find them, you'll pay a premium. People want them because they are unsearched and they are hoping to find doubled dies or other errors or varieties that they can turn over for even bigger profits. Some call them crazy, some call them gamblers, and some call them speculators, but whatever they may be, the folks paying those premiums have big dreams of a big pay day.
if I were you and you sell on ebay then take a couple from the bank and make a few bucks...but in reality they are not worth it,.
ok, well today we got two boxes of uncirculated pennies. Is there a way to distinguish the difference between the 2012-D and 2012-P without opening the box?
I've got mint boxes going back to 2009. When I think the price and time is right they're going on ebay.
Generally, the uncirculated cents a bank receives rolled and in a box are from the armored car company and they receive new coins in relation to their geographical location. In the west they will be all -D, in the east , all -P , in the middle, it may vary.
No doubt the sellers have juiced the description to mislead people into think the possibility exists of rare errors, varieties, etc. Wouldn't surprise me if every one of the rolls in those boxes have been searched and re-wrapped.
My 9 year old son, Preston, is interested in building his coin collection. He started by raiding relatives' coin jars, but aspires for older coins. I encouraged him to start collecting current coins and by the time he is middle aged, maybe the coins will be worth something. Our local bank doesn't get their coins from the Federal Mint so we have hit a road block as to where we can find him a few rolls of new pennies. I am watching some auctions on eBay, but I'm not very educated on coins and their value, or potential value and afraid of being, well, screwed Any help would be greatly appreciated. We could use a little advice, or a shove in the right direction Thanks, Preston's Mom
I have searched pennies and have unfortunately gotten many 2012 uncirculated rolls from the bank. I dump them in the machine. Now I check the their coin tray to see what is going on.
