good morning sir thank you so much. I also wanna ask you this my friend like to sell me this quarter for $200
It is silver. But not worth $200.00 Silver melt value is about $6.17 Tell your friend no thank you! Are your friends crazy? Or they think you're a sucker? Good thing you ask here first!
If your friend thinks the coin is worth $200 because of the Mintmark, he's not your friend. That D is doubled from mechanical doubling, and 1963-D and 1964-D Quarters are Extremely Common with this form of worthless doubling,
Good morning sir yes before I was new the Cointalk I did buy a lot of damage coins from my friends... but good thing is the member here is so good to me and give me a lot of advice...
And that quarter for $200. No way Always be careful Mari, too many people are trying to take advantage or simply don’t known anything and ask crazy prices. If you are not sure: ask. If you are sure: ask anyway, it doesn’t hurt and it only takes a couple of minutes until some of us will chime in. Don’t fall for it, you are way better than that dear
Notice how straight the line is? That's the first sign it's not a crack. See how it's not raised? That's another sign. Lastly, notice along the line that there are small bumps on both sides of the line. Those small bumps are where the metal of the coin has been pushed to the sides. That leaves a cut in the coin. Sorry dear but it just Damage.
As for the quarter. Ditch the friend. It's only worth a little over $6.00 at today's pricing. The doubling you see on the mintmark is MD, mechanical doubling, aka, NAV or No Added Value Doubling. Yes it is silver but MD is common on this date.
