In lieu of a December results thread, I figured we'd just skip right up and do a yearly recap thread. I wrapped my last boxes for the year today and I will probably go hit up some banks roadtrip style on Monday, but I doubt I'll find anything. If I do, I'll update.

    Onwards!

Here's my numbers for just boxes and bags, not CWR's.

    Halves;
$248,771 searched (So close to a quarter mill!)
    213 90%
    1260 40%

    90% broke down as follows;
    2 Barber
    38 Walkers
    47 Franklins
    126 1964's

    Quarters;
    $8,420 searched
    5 silver Washies
    1 silver state proof.

    Dimes;
    $80,350 searched
    1 Barber dime
    33 Mercury dimes
    375 silver Roosies

    Nickels;
    $15,886 searched
    6 V-Nickels
    95 Buffal nickels
    147 War nickels

Including CWR's, my total ounces on the year was 408.215oz. Not bad for a hobby.

Further validation for the fact that quarters are practically not worth searching for silver. I have searched about $5k this year and only turned up a 1964. Done far better with the meagre halves I can find, and of course dimes.

My yearly numbers are joke compared to yours. I am just estimating the amount that I searched through since I started doing it in late October.

    Halves
    $1200 searched
    1 90%
    38 40%

    Quarters
    $100 searched
    nothing

    Dimes
    $100 searched
    1 Roosevelt

    Nickels
    $500
    3 Buffalos
    4 War

    Pennies
    $100 searched
    1360 copper
    65 Wheats

Only a measly 6.27 troy oz of silver. Starting next year I am going to document what I do for the year and hit it harder. I didn't have much time these last months.

I ordered my very first box of halves yesterday. It will be in on Wednesday. Hoping to start 2013 off with a bang!

Not that great. Hopefully I do a lot better next year. Would love to have results like the rest of you guys.

I only started in September so yeah...

    Halves

    $41.50 searched
1 40% I can't find halves to save my life and my CU won't order them. Not sure what to do about that.

    Quarters
    $1,150 searched
    2 Silver: 39, 64

    Dimes
    $555 searched
    2 Roosies 47, 64

    Nickels
    $1,056
    2 Buffalo: 35, dateless
    9 war

    Pennies
    $601 searched
    941 Wheats
$154 worth of pre 82 copper

I may pick up some nickels and dimes on Monday but this will probably still be accurate since my dimes have skunked me most of the time and nickels are about 1 for every $100 searched.

I have kept records of my finds for almost a year now, but I have recorded them in logbooks and not on the computer and sometime should digitize the finds and totals.

An average of one 40% per box isn't that bad, really.

Should have saved more of these danged things back when I was a paper boy in the sixties. If I hadn't succumbed to the candy store, comic book, boyhood extravagances I'd be sitting on 'easy street'........;)

You would have gotten better returns from stocks. :)

Of course you're right, but it sure would be fun to look through all that stuff that I threw away back then.

I was thinking that if I keep track of this it will either encourager or make me never want to open a coin roll again

I'm not sure about others, but keeping tabs on what I find encourages me. It also lets me practice basic computer skills.

1/2 ounce per box, I'd take that any day of the week! Search more if you can.

Let me try this. My spreadsheets don't help much with this kind of tally.

    Cents:
    $1675 searched
    739 wheats

    Nickels:
    $580 searched
    47 Buffs
    46 War nicks
    1 V nick

    Dimes:
    $2750 searched
16 silver (no breakdown between Mercs and Roosies)

    Halves:
Searched 39 different days, but no breakdown between boxes and CWR. Probably something like 25 boxes, plus a lot of CWR.
135 silver halves. No breakdown by date of 40% vs. 90%, but they're mostly 40%ers.

I've crunched and recrunched, reviewed old entries and I think this is about as close to a final tally as I'll get. Here's my 2012 roundup.

    Grand total searched - $111563

    nicks - $200
    dimes - $69845
    quarts - $1250
    halves - $39697
    ikes - $527
    SBAs - $44

straight from rolls - $156.50 face

    mercs - 32
    roosies - 259
    CDN - 19
    40% - 199
    90% - 50
    ikes - 1
total: 68.8825 t.o. (not including CDN)

    rejects

    barber dime - 1
    mercs - 1
    CDN - 2
    quarts - 3

    other

several clad proofs in dime, half, SBA and commem form
steelies and a near mint '09D Professional Life penny
a purchased war nick and '23 peace dollar
    yard sale 1834 CBD and 1866 3CN
    best CRH find 1852 QE

All in all, a year of many ups and downs. In the end, I still miss my Dad very much, but highly doubt I would've found this hobby without the occurrence of his passing. I wish I could share this with him...but still like to think that maybe he put in a word or two with the coin fairies and gods/goddesses to bless me with some awesome finds and beginner's luck. I try to remind myself when I feel frustrated with the hunt that I'm doing it for the fun, pleasure, enjoyment and as an honor to his memory. With that, I will press on.
