This is exciting because these 30th anniversary pandas will have different designs than their respective 2012 BU versions! Here is a link to the article:

I like Pandas also, but take a deep breath before you look at the price. The 5-ouncers usually start at $500.00. Also, the Chinese Mint creates a lot of anniversaries for a lot to different things. They just had a 30th anniversary of something else coin-related in 2009. If the demand continues to be there, though, I guess it doesn't really matter how many different contrived anniversaries they pump out.

That's totally true. However THIS TIME... THIS. haha is ACTUALLY the 30th Anniversary of the Panda Coins. not the 30th anniversary of some bank in china, or of the olympic games or anything else random. This time the anniversary actually has to do with the coins.... Pretty cool I'd say.

I'd also like to say that i just read the full post, and I'm pretty... disappointed they aren't making a 1 oz silver 10 yuan coin???

I agree with you treehugger. I am not excited about all these "anniversary" coins with the same BU design in the middle and a ring around it with the "anniversary title." These coin seem lame , although much scarcer than their mintages suggest. What makes this anniversary exciting are the different designs with each denomination. I also have to say the mintages seem pretty healthy! I think the demand is there, especially in China

Yeah when I saw the different denominations, I was re-reading looking for the 1 oz but could not find it!! I went back to original press release in chinese and tried to dig but no 1 oz. So we will see!

Question, is there anyway to buy these directly from the china mint?
How do the dealers get their pandas anyway?

Availability of 2012 30th Anniv pandas

The China mint distributes its coins in the US through two "Official Distributors." The most famous one is PandaAmerica.com. If you go to their website they show these new 30th Anniv coins, but they don't show any pricing. These coins are due on March 30th, 2012. But, that does not mean they are necessarily available in the US by then. I will write about their availability and pricing once I have the info on my website: www.PandaLunarCoins.com. Thanks.

Interesting... well if this is correct then EVERY US dealer pretty much must get their panda's from the other Distributor...?
First because PandaAmerica's prices for 2012 panda's is more than other popular retail bullion dealers... so i doubt dealers buy and sell at a loss..
Also because PandaAmerica is saying they are going to start shipping 2012 panda's at the beginning of April... And i saw plenty of 2012 Panda's at the Whitman Show this weekend in Baltimore. The dealers said they got them in last week.

POST EDIT: Just spoke with Panda America... it sounds like they work with dealers regarding prices...

Steve, you pose an excellent question, and I did some digging. There are two possible sources for the coins:

    1) The "other" US distributor Manfra, Tordella & Brookes, Inc.
    AND/OR
    2) Dealers can buy from foreign distributors
