I happened across two 50$ Buffalo's today, A 69 and a 70, I got on coin facts to see what they were listed for. The 2011 W pulled up with two different categorys one at 2300 for MS70 and one for $7900 Why is that? is there a special proof? or is it a glitch in the software?
Coinfacts has them listed for $2,400, but I've seen them selling more in the $1,600 range for PR-70. The early release/first strike designation seems to carry a very high premium for this particular issue (at least people seem to be asking much more).
There was nothing special in 2011 (2013 had the reverse proof). I believe the price guide has different values for the PR 70 vs the PR 70 First Strike label. There is nothing special about the first strike label, it was just sent in earlier or remained in a sealed box but was still ordered within a certain time period. Some collectors do actively pursue the First Strike label and the population is usually fairly low. That is what makes the price higher. Currently I see one 2011 PR 70 First Strike on ebay with an asking price of 5,495. The cheapest sold example went for 3,314. So there is a premium for the label, but not as high as the guide price.
