I've noticed on the various cable coin selling outlets as well as ebay a lot of folks selling the 2011 Silver Eagle with 25th anniversary labels. Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 2011 the 26th year of the program? Seems like just a way for these outlets to just make more money on unsuspecting people. Robert Chambers tried to give some outrageous explanation along the lines of "NGC isn't counting the first year and thus this is the 25th year of the program" garbage. If that's the case then all those other labels designating the 5th, 10th, 20th years are then wrong... so which one is it? The mint's special 10 year set was released in 1995 so that would support my reasoning with 2010 being the 25th year. I noticed they are only doing 2011's with the anniversary label from NGC. I haven't seen one from PCGS. Thanks folks!!!!
I heard these same dudes try to rationalize paying 50 bucks for a raw 2010 SAE cause; "silver will go up people, it might only be 30 bucks today but if will go up! So buy yours today, and when silver hits 70 bucks you can tell everyone at what a deal you got!" I hear there is a bridge in Brooklyn with low miles that can be yours for only.................................
At HSN, Mike Mezak justified it by comparing it to a wedding anniversary. For example, if you got married in 1986 you would be celebrating your 25th wedding anniversary in 2011. They sold out of them so many fell for it. :rollling: TC
On the Coin Vault the other day, It almost sounded like these guys were having an orgasm over their labels. It was quite hilarious. Still not sure why people buy these bullion coins at their prices.
Sounds like when these guys pulled out the Yogi & Boo Boo Coin book! You would of thought you were in the first row of a deep south Baptist Church!
25th anniversary labels? Isn't Reverend Moy gone? Indeed he is, but the snake oil salesman aren't. It's a shame you didn't record and post that clip on youtube Wgpjr. Probably could have charged admission.....
Yes 26th year, 25th anniversary of the start of the program. So what. Anyone who can round up enough coins for a large enough bulk submission can get a special label made up. (Probably have to pay an extra "squeeze" to get it.)
I actually saw a lot of 2010's with the 25th anniversary labels from NGC- just found one on ebay tonight to verify I wasn't hallucinating. I just think its very dishonest of NGC to be participating in this as well. How could they allow for two different years having a 25th anniversary label on coins they graded. Seems like they are complicit in this just as much as anyone making bulk submissions for grading. These TPG's need to set some guidelines when it comes to things like this IMO.
2011 is the 25th anniversary of the program. But it is the 26th year of coins being made... that is correct. Some folks get really confused by math and apparently so does NGC. Similarly, 2009 was the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Cent, even though it was the 101st year of the Lincoln cent being made.
PCGS seems to be able to add better that ANACS, ICG or NGC (at least in 2005): http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2997&lot=1733 TC
Not really. 2005 was the 20th year of production, but only the 19th anniversary. So their slab was wrong as well.
Another Hawker media hype presentation. I wish these guys could be stopped from out right lying to consumers .
And now the us mint announces the release of the real 25th anniversary set, due to be released the end of October !
