........The "Mint Set" Lincoln cents are the same thing as the cents we use. Unless your talking about Proofs, Copper or the now discontinued Satin finish cents.
thanks i was going to open up a mint set to put with my satin cents page / believe i will just stop with the satins on that page/i have a dansco book with an extra page for my satins i didnt know if the new mint sets had a better example of the 2011
The Satin's are just higher quality coins struck to perfection. The only difference that I know of between Satin's and business strikes, is that the mint took extra steps to ensure the coin was almost perfect. Kind of like the process of striking a Proof, accept without striking it twice on a polished die. This is why you can find very high grades, like MS-69 and even MS-70 on Satin's. Can anyone correct me if I'm wrong?
The satin finish dies have a matte type finish to them and they impart that finish to the coins. The dies do not have the lightly polished surfaces of the business strike dies or the highly polished mirror fields and frosted devices of a proof die, so no the dies are different.
Now that we’ve all had time to look at our 2011 Uncirculated Mint Sets, does anyone notice a difference between business strikes and the coins in the sets?
Yes , no more satins. But, do all feel these are the exact same coins found in circulation or is there something that differentiates them from business strikes?
They will probably be struck a little better and possibly fewer contact marks but that's about it. Nothing that will jump out at you and say "I'm a mint set coin!"
