I have three of the Bullion coins from the 25th Anniversary Sets that appear to have doubling. Wexler has posted one from this set with doubling. The coins I just noticed have potential doubling in a slightly different location. There are three in my collection that are identical. I am posting one of them here and will do the others if there is any interest. I know the first reaction is Mechanical. But, look at the relationship and the fact that I have three identical. Thank you.
If you have 3 with identical features then it makes sense that this is from an imperfect die. I’m not sure if this qualifies as deterioration since the rest of the coin seems defect-free in the design ( in other words, the dies don’t appear to have begun to deteriorate yet ). Sometimes you will see light scuffing or the beginnings of ragged edges on new ASEs as the die gets “older in the tooth”. I don’t see that here. To me, this has minimal impact on value and are still beautiful bullion silver…Spark
Regarding the Wexler listing: He remarks that the 25th Anniv. Sets were produced “later in the year”. Even so, these Sets would almost certainly have used new dies at the start. The doubling shown for the 2011 listing is distinctly different than what is seen on your coins, and, as you said, occur at different locations. I think both your coins and the Wexler DDO are attractive, I wouldn’t mind having either in my stash…Spark
I had two of the Wexler DDO but traded one for a very nice Buffalo Nickel set. They are nice Bullion coins.
