Saw the designs yesterday. I must say I see less interest in the series going forward than in the State Quarters but I happen to like the new designs for this year.
I think many people who saved State Quarters were disappointed to find, in most cases, their current resale value to be only face after all their effort to collect them. This lessens the appeal of going through all that effort again. The piece that has the most interest to me is the 3" five ounce Silver coin. If they can solve the edge lettering problem, they will be the most popular. The fact that these can be bent so easily, will require them to be collected in the airtites the Mint supplies.
I think collectors looking for premiums for full sets is one thing but the average person like kids and enthusiasts will not worry so much about resale value rather than the joy of completing a set. Personally I am also looking forward to the 5 ouncers and would be thrilled to collect all of them.
