Anyone notice that they haven't minted any 2010 nickels or dimes, yet?

When they do, we should book a CT cruise to Puerto Rico. That seems to be where all the 2009s have been showing up. :thumb:

Given the fact that they haven't released the business stikes of the 2009 D nickel or dimes, and the economy is still poor, and coinstar machines are plentiful, I forsee 2010 being a low mintage year for nickels and dimes. I have plenty of the 09 Ps, but the 10s, why make them if they don't have enough demand for the 09s yet?

Then again, I could be wrong.

Great Idea I may be taking a cruise out of Puerto Rico if everything falls into place, And I'll have to hit the local banks for those.

You are correct. There is no demand for '09 nickels and dimes except by collectors and hoarders (not commerce). Dont' forget they quit producing the nickels last April, and then made a very small production in like November. So we are one month from April, and there is zero production. Therefore 2010 coinage of those coins will be much lower than '09.

we may get a true low mintage year, instead of the perceived one from last year....

2009 was a very low mintage year, and I suspect 2010 will be just as low.

    Where are them D's from 09' ?
Doesn't make sense, if they haven't released any of the D's from 09 why mint 2010's?

That's just it, they haven't made any 2010's so it makes perfect sense.

And just so you'll know, I'm gonna be the first person to find the 09 D dimes.

I do not think we will see any 2010 before the end of this year or early next year. I'm sort of thinking it may that long to start getting the 2009 dime and nicks!!!

WOW! Keep us posted! I would be interested if you come up with any new coins nickels of dimes. It's a shame the Mint has to release their coins out of the states just to avoid nasty "collectors". :headbang:

Btw, has anyone toured the Mints lately? I haven't had a chance to visit any of them, but imagine they would sell current year coins in their gifts shops...do they?

I keep rolls of nickels and dimes in my car in the off-chance I might come across a Popeye's or McDonald's somewhere giving them out in change. I hope to swap my rolls for theirs if I find any...I still have all my rolls. :crying:

IIRC the Souvenir Mint sets currently sold at the individual mints contain satin finish mint set coins

Not '09 nickels and dimes in rolls, if that's what you mean.

Bob, now play fair. You got the Ps first, you have to let one of the other kids find the Ds...

These really are some strange times I must say! Never in my life would I expect the mint to almost completely halt production of regular circulating coins. I do think in all fairness, the economy was almost as stagnant in the late seventies as it is currently. The big difference today is people are using credity cards so heavily now, probably even more so as a crutch right now, that coinage is slowly becoming a dinosaur. The good news is mint sets are rumored to be standard finish this year. So all the impatient people can just cut up a nice mint set if they feel the need to!

we are becoming a cashless society (for better or worse). As we continue to become less dependent on physical money, (bad idea BTW) there will be less and less need for coins.

But if you look historically, the mintages since 1964 were huge! Maybe this is just a move back toward those kind of coinage levels
