Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone has bought the silver commemorative coins that were issued by Mexico last year. If so what do you think of the coins. I've seen the designs and wasn't that impressed but are these coins that look better "live"? Also if you did buy them where did you buy them? I've only been able to find one dealer, in California, that advertises carrying them and wanted to be able to compare prices in case I decide to get them. Thanks!!
Purchased at Guadalajara Cambio (money exchange house) Hi. We just found two of them at a cambio (money exchange house) here in Guadalajara. I can't help you on price comparison, though, because down here, the cambios simply charge spot price (or a very small premium) for the coins. We paid $370 pesos (about $30.63 US) for each of the two coins. We would also be interested in what prices you find, both at your California store and any others you learn about. Thank you.
Well I was at a local coin show and saw the Centenial Set which includes the 2 2 oz silver coins and the bank notes. There were a few dealers that were selling and the lowest price I saw was $250 and the high was $450. I was not willing to pay either amount hopefully prices will come down after some time or when I'm in Mexico later this year I'll be able to find them for less money.
Yikes! Is that US Dollars!?!? I wouldn't be willing to pay that amount for a set like that, either. Unfortunately, El Banco de Mexico even charges a premium when they sell their coins and notes at conferences and conventions. If you're wanting the Libertads (the silver bullion rounds), Banco de Mexico will charge a premium on those, as well. So, we buy in the after-market, which for some strange reason is actually less than buying from the banks here in Guadalajara. Buying the notes, however, is face value, if you can find any that still have the 2010 commemorative notes. We can often find the Libertads still in their original packaging, or at least uncirculated, at the cambios (money exchange houses) here in Guadalajara. The price for them will be whatever the silver spot price is.
Lol yes in US Dollars. The Libertads are no problem. I can find those at reasonable cost but when it comes to the commemorative coins like the Centennial coins those are the ones that are hard to find and when I do they usually cost a good amount.
I don't think I'm supposed to try to sell anything in here, but I recently placed an ad in the Classifieds Forum. You could read that ad and contact me there to see what we can work out. I suppose I should note, though, that the two that we bought yesterday are one ounce coins, not the two ounce ones. I didn't realize from your original post that you were looking at the two ounce coins. Sorry.
