If you buy now from ebay, you'll pay a substantial premium. Since it is only January, why not wait and get them for face value at your bank?

$20 is nothing compared to some of the rolls I've seen for sale. These 2010 rolls are going for upwards of $50 in some cases!

    I dont get this.

This coin will be plentiful. You will have 50 years to get this coin.

    What is the rush?

The Rush is that if dealers can get this coin before it is supposed to be out they can sell it at coin shows for like 5 dollars a coin and people would buy them left and right because of the fact that they cannot get them anywhere else until next month. Maybe you see it like I do and will just wait until they come out but look at what the 2009 birthplace coin is going for people are getting now like $150 a box because you cannot get them anywhere else..

Those 2009 boxes are special mint boxes. Those don't exist for 2010 cents.

A better comparison might be to the 2009 version 3 or 4 boxes (which did not sell out immediately). They sold from the mint for 8.95 plus shipping, and you can get them on ebay for around 8.95 plus shipping.

  11. Wait a few months and get them at the bank for face value. TC

Well thats why I planned on doing but I seen that a guy on this forum had them so I was just wondering if I had missed something and if there was a way to get them other than paying like 10x face value. :D Thanks anyways guys :D

A lot of collectors are foolish thinking they HAVE to get the new coins right away and they will pay stupid money to get them. What are 2009 P nickels selling for now? Last year when they first appeared and no one could find them, for awhile they were bringing $18 PER COIN!! A year later they are much cheaper but still hard to find. Eventually they will become much easier to find and they will drop to not much over face.

Conder101: The first 2009P nickels went for over $100 a coin. That is nuts!

Now there a buck or so.

Well haha the whole point to this thread was that I thought that they had been released somewhere and that they were put out early and I may be able to go get some from the bank or w/e but I checked here first I have no intention on getting the new penny at what its going for I can wait as you all said it will be around a while I'll just pick them up at the bank :D

Taurus, My reason for wanting to get some as early as possible is that I enjoy Die Varieties. Some coins change in subtle ways through out a given minting year. So getting them before the Official release gives me a better chance of getting early Die Set specimens. For instance the Official Drawing shows the stripes to be all straight. Where as the coin itself has a bend in the stripes below the word ONE CENT they may change that later making the early ones a separate Die Variety.

Just received three in the mail that I bought off eBay this past weekend. I paid a buck a peice for them, but I was really curious to see the new design in hand, and of course to have bragging rights as well :kewl:

I am impressed with them, and have already added the best of the three to the album. They do show some rinse spots, like the 2009's.

The shield really jumps off the coin, and gives a nice 3-D effect. I think that the proof versions will really pop.

I also think that the reverse design works well for such a small coin. Even though many think the stripes on the shield should be burnished like the JFK Half, but I think that it looks good the way it is. After all it is just a cent. Keeping it simple was the correct decision in my opinion.

Anyway, I know I can get these at face in a few weeks (maybe), but I have spent a lot more than $3 on a lot less in past. To me it was worth the fee for the early peek.
