    Sholom retired...

So, I kept reading that the design picked for the reverse of the new 2010 Lincoln cent resembled some sort of German Nazi-period coin, but I never did see a picture.

    Until now.

    Check this out!

I saw a shield design that I really liked. It had a classic, almost 19th century feel to it, and I thought it look good. But, I haven't been able to find another picture of it.

I agree. I could even live with LP-17, since it's an eagle. I don't know about you but I'm getting sick of buildings on coins.

So many new mint designs look like either technical renderings or cartoons.

    Where's the effort toward art?

That's what I couldn't put into words. :thumb:

I can only suggest that the images seem computer generated versus from the hand of an artist.

I would really like to see the LP designs actually minted on copper planchets. From the drawings, I favor the Eagle.

Does anybody know someone that's good enough on photoshop to actually take the LP designs and make pics out of them so we could see them on copper?

Personally, I can live with the shield design - I would have LOVED to see a return to the original wheat back design, but that is asking too much I think.

The shield leaves a lot to be desired; I too am partial to the eagle...as it is the closest design to actual art.

The shield was my second favorite, but the eagle is WAY better.

I agree, I like the Eagle best. I'd like to hear what Ruben thinks. I remember a post he made about different objects and how they looked different on different metals.

Are they going to be silver colored, steel pennies again?
Or the copper zinc we have now?
    Or 95% copper?
    What will the content be?

I don't think the eagle or capitol building would look good shrunk down to fit on a cent. Just too small a size.

The shield idea is nice for it's novelty (the wheat would be, too). Don't we have plenty of eagles on our coins already?

I'd like to see the old wheat ears, but with somewhat different typography for the reverse.

Or, better yet, a return to something based from the reverse of the Indian head cent. I really like that one.
