Tommy, I'm guessing that it might have been compacted grease & debris that built up in one of the devices, fell out and was then struck into the next planchet. After imprinting itself, it fell out of the coin. When I searched a $50 bag of 1980 Philly 1c, I found a lot of coins that were the result of this kind of strikethrough. Chris

You could very well be correct Chris. I have found a lot of these but not quite as severe. They are all over the place but mostly on the obverse. I have yet to find any on the reverse.
That is probably because the obverse was the anvil die and the reverse was the hammer die. Of that bag of 1980's I mentioned, the reverse must have been the anvil die because all of the strikethroughs were on the reverse. Chris
