I just received my 2009 US Mint Proof Set and two of the Lincoln pennies are only about half proof on one side. The upper half (approximately) is proof and the lower half is extremely dull/faded. Has anybody heard of this yet

    Welcome to CoinTalk.

We need photos to understand what you are describing.

I got my set on Monday and it is beautiful. Considering some of the problems others have reported, I'm extremely pleased.

I'll try to get a picture and post it....I'm fairly new at this so maybe it's just they way they are supposed to look. The picture of Lincoln side is perfect proof but the reverse side that has the log cabin and the one with the White house (I believe thats what it is) the top portion is proof and the bottom portion looks duller then an uncirculated Non proof coin

Rich, old fellow, that's the way it's supposed to look..."mirrored fields and frosty devices".

I didn't know for sure after I saw the following picure of the Lincoln cabin on the net. Looks a lot different then the one I got

Different method of manufacture.....That last picture is of a "bank roll" (unc).

    Sholom retired...

Further, if I recall correctly, the bottom half of that Log Cabin reverse is supposed to be a bit "mottled" (for lack of a better term). It doesn't show very well in the bank roll pic -- but it shows very very well in the proof (which is why you might have thought "half proof half not")
