I was browsing The Royal Mint and came across this:

    http://www.royalmint.com/store/WorldBase/US09SPS.aspx

I find it strange that the Royal Mint is selling this. Could it be that foreigners are not allowed to buy from the US Mint?

I know Americans are allowed to buy from the Canadian Mint and the Royal Mint, but not other mints.

Eight five pounds is pretty steep. I've always been under the impression that folks in the UK could order directly from the US Mint.

As far as I know the US Mint sells to anyone. Shipping is higher of course; but there's no reason the US Mint wouldn't ship to the UK.

As for the other way around, I've bought directly from the UK and Canadian mints many times; some foreign mints don't have their ordering set up to handle foreign orders directly, but in those cases you can easily buy through a third party. Sometimes the mint will actually contract out their ordering system to more easily handle foreign orders.

As to why the UK mint is selling US proof sets? No clue... and why at 3 times what the US mint is selling them for (well if they were still selling 2009 proof sets) also no clue... but even with the higher shipping UK residents would be a lot better off ordering directly from the US mint.
