A while back I posted about an edge error on a 2009 Sacajawea dollar that I found. Nothing major, but it gives an interesting insight into the manufacturing process and how it can go a little haywire. Has anyone else found any of these? Mike
I've looked at this thread several times waiting for soemthing to happen. Either with my brain (in figuring out what the OP is referring to) or in getting a larger picture. Tonight, brainstorm! It appears that the OP is holding a coin (a little incorrectly I might add) that has expoerienced some slippage in the edge lettering portion of minting. It looks like E PLURIBUS UNUM is incomplete starting at about RIBUS UNUM and instead has the stars which follow that motto. Am I right? If so, these ARE error coins but unfortunately, all the TPG's simply call them edge damaged. No Partial Edge Lettering designation (even though that's what they are in the true sense) just damaged.
Hi- You both are right. That is what happened with the dollar (sorry for the bad pic-I thought it would expand if you clicked on it) Am I holding the coin improperly? LOL! If it were a coin of any value, I would hold it with care. (I collect half cents so I know how to hold a coin) Honestly, this picture probably reflects my contempt for this design (as produced). The original Glenna Goodacre design was magnificent, and then it got cartoonized, and I have hated the end result ever since. The original would have been one of America's great coins, IMO. These are in the class of ChuckECheese tokens now. Now, I will go back and read the tutorials on how to properly size a pic. Thanks for looking! Mike
