Perhaps the improving economy and the shenanigans of the credit card companies is causing an upsurge in cash transactions necessitating more coinage in circulation. There are a lot of credit cards getting canceled and this will increase further as they start charging people for paying off their cards every month. Some are even wary of getting billed annual fees for cards they don't use.
So has the treasury just shipped out a bunch of 2009 nickels and dimes to banks or have they always been available? I barely found out that this will be a very low production year so I would like to stash a few rolls away. Anyone?
Maybe I'm wrong but it seams like this happens almost every year lately. First no one can find the new ones. Then they start appearing at coin shows, coin stores, ebay, miscellaneous coin web sites. Then all of a sudden POOF, they are all over the place in change.
Danr, unfortunately still not being released in quantity. Since June, there have always been only 5 or 6 guys that get a couple hundred rolls and sell them. Our CT member rodzm was the first. Your ebay link is just one of the handful of guys that have a connection like rodzm. I think of all the numismatic sites I read, there has only been one or two nickels found in change.
I used to find a lot of 2009P dimes where I live (and sold a bunch of them) but don't seem to find them anymore....
