Hey guys, So in 2012 I found a one dollar bill that looked extremely odd. At first glance I thought the back of the note was dirty, until I looked closer. It seems to be that the ink bled through? Or printed over? I've yet to look for an local appraisal since I'm too busy with work. So my question is. Does this worth anything? Thanks in advance.
It depends on the volume of transfer. Your note picked up the face of the note beneath it when it was stacked after printing. It was heavily inked and transferred the residue onto the back of your note. It seems to be the most common of all "error" notes. The more face that is transferred to the back, the more it is worth. Perhaps a picture would help determine the added value. It can also work just the opposite, back to face.
The note is sharp and clean with very little evidence of handling. You have a goodly amount of transfer there. I would say ungraded, it should add $50 to $65+ to it's value. Higher denomination sell for more. It just a timing thing in the market when you go to sell. Get two collectors bidding for it and anything can happen.
Thanks for the info. Once I received this bill I got a sleeve for it the next day. I'm in Hawaii and will look around here locally to see if I can get an appraisal. Or how do I get it graded?
Call some of the dealers in Hawaii and see if they belong to PCGS or PNG. Those are the two best grading companies for paper currency. For a small fee, they can send it in for you under their membership.
Look real close at the picture, I have seen some where someone printed the face on the reverse, the one I saw used a dot matrix printer so it was easy to spot.
I could not say from the photo wether it is something someone overprinted on, you have it in hand so you could tell better than anyone wether it was someone fooling around with a printer or an BEP ink transfer.
I think it is fine. A dealer could tell quickly if this is post BEP or not. There is a lot of detail there from what I see. The poster was not saying it was fake and even mentioned he could not say whether it was or not. He is just saying not to go out and spend your new found cash until someone can verify it.
