I just purchased a Sac with some shifting on the edge lettering. Anyone know how this could happen and if it is worth sending in to be graded/slabbed?
they are slabbed as errors, but I believe (my two cents) they are already too common, and thus not worth much. Check for them on ebay and see what they are selling for (NOT being listed for, but actual sales). And then assume a lot more will hit the market and whatever price they are selling for now will come down.
I did some researching and I was unable to find many edge errors with Sacagaweas. On Ebay I only found a hand full of other errors with similar coins. Perhaps you know some things about it through the grapevine Robbudo?
The slid during part of the edge lettering instead of rotating. It results in part of th lettering being too close and other sections being too far apart. It's called edge slippage and it isn't that uncommon. Sometimes the coin stops rotating and several letters go past before it starts rotating again. When that happens the raised letters on the edge die actually cut a groove in one section of the edge as they go past.
In that case the $13 I bought it for off Ebay was much more than it was worth, oh well...lesson learned. Thanks for the replies.
didn't notice it! i actually got 3 and one of them is like that nice find sorry you got ripped though their still going tru the banks well at least where i live.
