I just got a few rolls of 2009 Sacagawea dollars from the mint, and have only opened one so far and noticed that the edge lettering was surprisingly thin! I've collected coins for some time now, but this really caught my eye! Got a bunch of pics with my camcorder, and was wondering if anyone here could confirm this as a lightly pressed edge script error of some sort... My friend got a roll in the same order and he had the samer error, if it is an error, but it appears slightly more strongly pressed in. In the images I used what I considered average for 2007 P James Madison dollars for comparison... Also, I used a flashlight to get the most contrast out of the edge I could... Just wanted to know what you all thought! Thank you! James M.
Yep, positive. The one on the top is a 2007 James Madison, but the one on the bottom is the new Sacagawea Native American Dollar. All of them seem to have that same scratch... upon closer inspection, its only visible at certain angles... I wonder if its from the machine that marks the edges? Thanks for the reply, mate!
the same here - all the 2009 D coins Ive opened have the same condition very weak lettering - ive heard this condition also on the PCGS forum Im not sure if it applies to "P" mint ones ???
