Hi, i'm new to this forum but i was just wondering if this type of problem with the coin is an error or not? I have a couple rolls of these and on the reverse side I see this type of scratch. Any ideas what caused this? Should I keep these? Here's a picture:

I know the picture isn't too clear since the picture was taken during the night time and there wasn't enough light for a better picture.

Thanks in advance for any information!

It's very hard to see in that light but it looks like something deeply scratched the coin, probably during or after it was rolled. Damage like that does not add to the value of a coin. It is post-Mint damage and makes the coin worth one cent.

yes, it does look like something deeply scratched it. Would it be caused by the rolling process? Is there a way for the machine to scratch it when it is rolled?

Who knows? Mabe somebody dropped a few rolls and the end coins got damaged.

Often there is a circular scratch around

Often there is a circular scratch around the outside coin in a bank wrapped roll - it is caused by the rolling machine.

Looks very much like the rolling machine. Severe misadjustment or bad roll.

    Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for all the replies everyone! Maybe I'll open one of these rolls and check it out.

I went to Lincoln Indiana and got the penny's. One of my penny's has the circular scratch around it, are these coins rolled at a bank? Also, where parts of the scratch is the color is silver. It looks like the copper color was scratched off. Many of mine have the color worn off. (not for any obvious reason like the one I described above) I have never seen that on a coin before. One auction is calling this an error. Item number: 220414438357 on ebay. If it is an error then I have lots of them! If this isn't an error will it make the coin less valuable?
Thank you for your help, I am new to this but I can tell it is going to be easy to get hooked!

Not an error just a scratch/damage. And the reason it is silver in color is because the copper plating is very thin and the damage has torn through the plating to expose the zinc beneath it

If it's circular it's from the rolling/counting machine.
