The scratches in his right cheek and I don't believe that was done after the it left the mint

Your photos aren't good enough to see the scratches.

Well I just use the same photos that's on ct and enlarge them and I can see them there there's one long one right on his cheek bone that runs down towards his jaw and then there's one right behind it that's a little shorter I'll try to take better pictures for you

Well that's what I thought I looked at it under high magnification and there's no damage anywhere around any of the rest of it and of course I'm still new at this I've only been doing this 3 months but usually I can tell when something happened after it left the mint

I'm not real good at highlighting things but maybe that'll help focus on the one area

Well in your opinion do you think it was during the process or after

Almost looks as if it were part of the design.

When I first saw it you're right but I compared it to 8 other coins exactly like that one and not one of them had those markings

Interesting, but with this degree of difference, I don't think there would be any added value since if it were in the die, there would be a few million out there.

If it were anything else I would say that resembles that is an over polished die. I'm probably wrong, that's why I say resemblance. That's if it's not a scratch, and I can't really tell

The variety to look for on this coin is an extra finger on the left hand holding the book.

Hmmm possibly a new DDR, unlikely. Possible an undiscovered design change. Not sure to be true though.
