why did the mint stop selling the 2008 W proof silver eagles so early. I also just checked ebay and they are going for $50 dollars and up. Dang it ic i'm going to pay more now since I waited
They are starting to run low on silver planchets so they are devoting their remaining supply to meet bullion demand.....may change if they can get more planchets from their suppliers.
I don't know... I just typed in the search "2008 W PF69", and there were 27 auction listings, and a whole bunch more in eBay stores. The lowest Buy it Now being $39.99.
No..Steve...the mint does not sell slabbed coins. What I was trying to say (in my tongue in cheek way) was that most of the silver eagles the mint produces are MS/Proof 69.
Ha, wow do I feel stupid.. I was going to say...I didn't think they did, and while I never have bought from the Mint, it just didn't sound right. hya:
What about gold proof eagles? I just looked at the half oz. pop. report for 2008 on NGC today and so far they've graded 500 '08 1/2 oz. golds. 72% so far, were PF70s.
Yeah, I've noticed on eBay as many/more '07-'08 PF and MS 70's then the 69's! I don't know what's going on here.
It's really quite simple guys. The quality of production is greatly improved over years past. Take a look at an '80s proof set and compare it to one produced today...todays strike is far superior. Now factor in soft metal nearly 100% pure and it is rather likley that you will produce a MS/PS 69/70 with a consistant regularity.
