So I want to add the 2008 W ASE reverse error to my collection, but it seems that the eagles in the original packaging run just about the same price as the 69's... Seems ridiculous that a graded coin is worth equal to or less than a coin in its original packaging. which would you go for?

Which is a better investment for a collection?

This keeps on my thoughts of graded coins values eventually as a scam/joke.

    Thoughts?

It depends on how you collect them. Do you have most of your collection in an album or are most of the eagles graded? I'd go for ungraded because that's how I like to collect them, but a graded example might/would move easier if you were planning to sell down the road.

Oh. And I wouldn't refer to that coin as an error. Maybe an error in judgement by the guy at the mint employing the wrong reverse die. I'd call it a variety.

  4. The vast majority will grade either 69 or 70. As far as OGP versus 69, I would go with whichever one you can get cheaper. TC

I would keep it in whatever type of packaging you use in the collection. If you don't have a preference, get the cheaper one

Why ? To a knowledgeable collector whether a coin is slabbed or raw makes no difference in its value.
