    Because these photos aren't the best close-ups, I can't be 100% positive that these are die chips. It looks like there might be a gap between the marks and the right, inside of the loops. If this is the case, then I don't think die chips could cause this. Why wouldn't the outer edge of the post (which forms the center of the letter) just break away altogether?

    There does seem to be a gap, and the look like bubbles in there. I'll try to get closer tonight.

    This is about as much mag my scope can do. Funny that the posts seem to have cavitated all the way around, and yet seems to go deeper in the center than the rest of the field. Nothing else seems to be influenced.

    yes there may be a chance , about anything can happen to a coin when in circulation. this looks like it may even be reed marks from another coin. no matter what it it is it's worth .25 cents. lol

    As Rick and Rick said, it's die chips. When they manifest inside the B or loops of a number, they often present with close separation from the device itself.
