I have an Alaskan Statehood Qtr with no serrations. Does anyone recognize this as a defect? I cannot find a similar defect posted anywhere. You can clearly see the "sandwich" construction. (This is my first post so I apologize if I didn't get this right.)

First, welcome to the neighborhood, Terry!

This is not an error. It is post-mint damage (PMD). I can just make out the reeding on the edge.

It's spent a lot of time rolling somewhere, probably in a clothes dryer -- you'll see the term "dryer coin" here. I see this more frequently on half dollars.

Can you post another photo of the
    edge, not at an angle?

I'm thinking it might be a partial
collar strike, but the angled photo
of the side of the coin isn't showing
enough for me to be sure.

Thank you to those who responded. Here is a better picture of the edge. Any more thoughts?

Yeah looks like it was messed with. Weigh it to make sure. If it weighs more then normal ,you might have something

I took another Alaska "P" uncirculated state quarter and weighed it then weighed the one with no serrations. The one with no serrations was .064 grams less. So I am guessing that it must therefore be a PMD case. Thanks to all who provided input.

The second picture clearly shows that it was the coin was knocked around and the reeding was worn off or abraded. Sorry, but it's not a mint error.

Thanks "old hoopster". I didn't think it was a "slam dunk" . :)
