i was roll searching quarters and saw this on some of the new mexico quarters. is it anything? advice appreciated. these are 4 different coins
I believe what you see are the beginnings of full-blown die breaks. In the early stages, the die can form sub-surface cracks which eventually fall completely away and fill with metal from the planchet. When I was searching bags of 2005 CA SQ's, I came across numerous coins that looked like this. Some of them were located on the brim of John Muir's hat, and I finally found one with the full die break on it. Chris
Unless you have the full die break to go with them, that's about it. Even with the die break, they aren't worth a whole lot except to a bidiot. Chris
