2008 Hawaii Quarter U.S.A. trails(?)

The extended markings between rim and lettering on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on obverse and HAWAII on reverse. What caused this?

I'm not up on these types of things so I posted the link. Not sure at all what you have there and I'm hoping someone will chime in when they see this 'chatter'. In other words.......Bump!

Current thoughts: 1)caused during ejection 2)something akin to R.R.D.D. 3) improperly prepared planchet. Come on folks, take a stab!

 

Throwing this post back up for one last shot. Keeps me up at night.

 

It doesn't look like trails. It looks like radial flow lines caused by die deterioration to me.

 

Thanks Jay, I'll keep that as the front - runner as I have no clue and no one else sems to be able to add to it.
