I had this saved in a flip, is the heavy shadowing in front of the horses head and neck and around the cowboy something normal?
Maybe you all are not understanding but this is a very large silver dark shadow no a scratch . And I had a few rolls of the coins and put this one aside from the rolls if I remember right.
You made me think of something that had slipped my mind. First, I have to ask you, "Is the area in question real shiny?" Sometimes it's hard to tell from photos. If it is, it may be that the die that was used was originally one of the dies specially prepared for the satin mint sets. The Mint began producing the satin mint sets in 2005, and it was soon discovered that the finish on the dies did not last as long as expected. They were no longer good for producing the SMS coins, but with a little polishing of the worn areas, the Mint continued using them for business strikes. Chris
When I was actively searching Mint bags of 2005-2008 SQ's, I found hundreds of coins with this same "affliction". The Mint just did not foresee that the SMS dies would wear out so quickly. I assume that is why the SMS program ended a couple of years later. Chris
