I found this incredible piece while counting my cash drawer at work. It's in superb condition, and I'd like to have it graded sometime. Does anyone know how many of these have been discovered? I know they're hard to find, and about 7 varieties exist. https://www.flickr.com/photos/69687188@N05/35140577626/in/dateposted-public/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/69687188@N05/34335856124/in/dateposted-public/
It's an excellent example of what I believe is called a Bi-level Die Break You want to get it attributed not graded. These are not varieties but mint errors. They appear in different forms so there could be any number of them though rare. I want to share this webpage with you - http://www.error-ref.com/bi-level_die_cracks_/
As a general rule, die cracks rarely add much value to a coin, and even then only to those whose interest goes to such features. Others consider them "damage" and won't buy at all. This one represents an exception to that rule you could drive a box truck through. I'm not gonna publicly share the number that danced through my head when I contemplated what I'd pay for this at auction, except to say it's kinda big. Look at the displacement at IN.... This one is significant.
Thank you for your input! I've researched what they sell for and I'm pleased with the numbers I saw. This is the first time I've found a single coin of such value in circulation.
I've been an active participant on numismatic fora for fifteen years, and in my opinion this coin ranks in the 5 most important circulation finds I'm aware of in that time. Of course, I have interest in this niche.
