Asking about a coin is usually my last option before sending it in and spending a bunch of money to find out its been altered lol. Im pretty good when it come to coins like this but this one kinda has me stumped cause ive never found an unplated lincoln cent that wasnt dipped in acid or plated to look silver. This one came in a large lot i won at auction about a month ago and I assumed it had been plated when i first saw it (i didnt buy the lot for this coin). Anyway when i got the coins i weighed this one just to get it out of the way but it weighs 2.49 grams which i think is a bit heavy for an unplated cent and too light for one that was plated over the copper. The other thing is that it looks like it has a brushed look to it like its been cleaned, but the details seem too good to have had the copper brushed off. Im still not convinced the cent hasnt been messed with so please let me hear some of your thoughts from seeing my crappy pictures lol.
Unplated Cents that I have seen have less luster than yours. I don't think it's unplated. I mean no plating *
The coin is all white. What you see is more of a reflection, the coin is very mirror like in that area.
the unplated zinc's are more of a dull grey that's not too shinny, or reflective. At least that's what i thought...
