hi, i just wanted to know if anyone knows if i sent in a thomas jefferson dollar roll with heads at one end and a blank planchet at the other if they would grade it a "thomas jefferson blank planchet". has anyone heard of any other rolls like this being discovered?
I know one TPG was grading Prez dollar rolls but I don't know how they would handle a roll with a blank at one end. I'm sure they would want to inspect the blank to authenticate it - and then it is no longer a "bank wrapped roll". Plus, they would want to inspect the edge to see if the blank planchet has edge lettering (a more valuable error than a plain blank planchet). If I were you I would break open the roll to find out if there are any other blank planchets. It would seem to me that two or three blank planchets (especially if they have edge lettering) would be more valuable than a roll with one blank showing. Good luck.
It would be a blank planchet, but the roll would need opened. It would be worth the trouble to open the roll. The coin would demand a premium.
If the roll is an original bank roll with the Thomas Jefferson name on the side, or if it is a roll that the mint sold directly, and you send the entire unopened roll to the TPG so they open it, there is a good chance they WILL slab it as a Thomas Jefferson dollar blank planchet You can always call customer service and ask just to make sure. (And you can have them slab any other blanks planchets they find in the roll as well.) So I would say that if you wnt to get it slabbed DO NOT open the roll.
I agree with Conder. If you want to get it slabbed do NOT open that roll. I'm pretty sure that if you send the whole roll to the grading co. that they will grade it as such. They both have Toll-free numbers so you should call and make sure of that though... Speedy
