They went on sale today.....did anyone buy any and do you think that any will be found with the rimless dollars? I bet not, as I am sure they are going over all the coins now with a fine tooth comb. I also see they limited this cover to 50,000....the state quarter covers are limited to 75,000. Do you think they lowered the number because covers are not that popular
I ordered one with the gift box. The gift box looked classy but I doubt if I will see any profit in my life time. I spend as much money at Wendys so I do not think it is a bad deal. 50,000 is a low production run for such an inexpensive product that I think will gain some acceptance in the coming years. If the mint really wanted to promote a "dollar" coin. They should make it out of silver with a size to correspond to the value of silver. Not unlike some gold dollars I own. This idea is probably unworkable due to the volatility of the market.
Having those error coins has helped the george washington coins a lot. People in my area who could have cared less for the coins have been raiding the banks for these rolls. After they have searched these rolls, many have been returned. Now instead of the banks having rolls that very few wanted, they now have a number of loose coins It will be very interesting how many people will want these hopefully non error John adams coins
I've always regarded Phila-numismatic Covers (P.N.C.s) & Phila-medallic Covers (P.M.C.s) as being really philatelic items rather than as numismatic items. There are some people over here in New Zealand who do collect them, but they are generally extremely unpopular. Aidan.
i'll bet that they will be sold out in 24-48 hrs from what i am hearing,my suggestion would be (since the est. shipping time is now 4/23) order them now and you can cancel before shipment if you change your mind,i ordered 650.................
I cannot believe these haven't sold out yet. I hear people are buying these like crazy, hundreds at a time.
Due to the fact that these are true first day strikes, do you guys think that the quality of these coins will be better than those that came later? I know they are processed the same, but do you think the 'brand new' dies will put out better coins?
The coin is a collassal failure and is impossible to get from major banks, and is being circulated less than even Saqs are. Its a truly ugly coin. The sales your quoting are completely knee jerk by a small minority of the public. And this is only the ***first*** of the dollar coins. The Albecross of going to be around the mints neck for a decade. The stocks of uncirculated coinage is going to be so large as to make the Morgan stockpiles look small. Ruben
bet the big guy on coin vault is behind all of this with the coin covers. If Mr. slick on HSN gets some of them, wonder if he will number them like 1 out of 2,326. poor poor people. If the proof sets sell for about $15 you are not talking about any serious bucks. I will wait for the silver proof and get one then. what the heck can always use it for a light, paper weight. Looks like the mint/proof sets are the only way you are going to get some nice non banged up coins. "Gorgeous George" being the first of its type, cheap and available, was always going to be popular. Add to this the hype over the godless error coins and you have a pretty tuff lead off hitter. After Jefferson and maybe a few others, you will have a long stretch to lincoln and then TR. Reality time.
The cover on these things makes it appear as though these are coins from the first day they were minted. I was basing that on the dates written on the covers themselves. Are you sure they're not? ( cue the dramatic music as I venture to question ND86?) I know you're usually a provider of good information, so if you say that's not what it means I'll believe you, but that makes the packaging kinda shady.
Ok, make that always. (Have you really never been wrong?) Thanks for clearing up the misconception on my part.
I see the GW cover is sold out. Is this the fastest any first day cover sold out? I got 8 of them and the mint sent them really fast....I opened one just from the white envelope it came it. I was hoping to find a first day cover with no rim lettering....I have not opened the other 7. Curious how they will do in the secondary market. I plan on keeping 6 for grandkids...and I have 2 to play with.
