What are the feelings on this coin? From the looks of things I should be buying these things left and right. Anyone give me a reason not to, or confirm my ideas? These are sure to be THE key date.
I have two. Wish I had a hundred. Every collector who wants to keep their silver eagle date/mintmark collection completed will need one, which means the price will have a lot of support under it. I have no idea if the present price is reasonable or not. I actually will probably sell them someday if the price gets outrageous to fund other purchases since I never really feel compelled to complete a set of anything.
They certainly have potential but it is also about price and condition. I think we will know this year when the 2007 w comes out how well the coin is for this series.
If I read correctly they made around 450,000 of these coins +/- a few thousand. The next lowest mintage is the 1996 at 3.2 million. That makes the 2006 W Uncirc. THE coin to have, considering the fact that millions of people want them. These seem like crazy numbers to me.
I would have to agree with everyone who posted above. I have one in the 20th Ann. set and had two more singles ordered from the mint. Don't know how the mint works their orders but my single orders were placed on 11/12. Finally went to "in stock and reserved" in Feb, then they cancelled my orders about two weeks later. Go figure. Likewise I think these will increase in price. I've watched prices on ebay go from $60.00 up to around $90.00 now. I expect they'll go higher.
Wasn't the 2006 W sold separately from the 20th anniv set? And if so, is there a difference in the price of the ones that came in the sets and the ones sold as singles? And how could you tell the difference if they weren't slabbed from the original boxes?
20th anniversary set sold as one set at $100 per set; coins inside were not individually priced 2006 w unc also sold separately at around $20 The 2006 w unc from the 20th anniversary set is identical to the separately sold 2006 w unc The only way to tell the difference is by the holder. if you send a US Mint-sealed 20th anniversary set to PCGS for example, PCGS will put the coins in holders indicating that the coins came from a 20th anniversary set. Hope this is helpful
I think this coin is going to be more compared to the future unc coins with the W mintmark and so that is why I think we need to see the mint sales on this for 2007. The 2006 proof eagle sold 848,000 if you don't count the anniversary sets, but if you go back there are sales of the proof that go down to around 400,000 which is less than this coin forgetting the 1995 W proof. So I don't think this mintage is a screaming rarity is all I am saying. The reverse proof of 250,000 will probably do better than this coin.
You meant the 2006s, right? Will the mintages be returning into the millions from this point on? Thanks in advance.
Benjamin Franklin Silver Dollars I think this is a much better deal right now(bargain) Proof and uncirculated Founding Father Proof total- 250,000 The "Scientist" Proof and Uncirculated total 250,000
Comparing the ASE to any Commemerative is really not apples to apples. As far as the ASE go on an individual coin basis..my thoughts are that the 2006Uncirc "W" will standout as a key date for sure. Where prices go is based on supply and demand. I personally have 20 of these coins and have decided to keep them instead of selling any of them. I also think that the 2007 and later years yet to be released will have impact depending on mintages! After 2006 "W" Uncirc coins slipped by most everyone including dealers, I doubt that this type situation will ever go overlooked again or in the future. We truly have a special ASE unc coin and it will remain the key date coin for years to come. Keep em if ya got em... RickieB
This is good logic. If the 2006W were a one shot issue, then it would be rare and desirable. But, if the whole unc. W series drifts along with similar mintages, then that means that not many collector are going to collect them (for now, at least). If, on the other hand, the series takes off, then the 2006 will be the expensive key coin. There is probably more of a chance that this will happen. There are a lot of people who want an unc. SE but don;t know where to get one - the mint has fixed that now.
I got two of them, and now I have a quandry. I'm considering getting them graded, but don't know which company to go with. I wanted to go with PCGS, but they haven't graded an uncirculated Silver Eagle a MS70, and from what I heard, probably won't. On the other hand, NGC has graded some 70s, but do any of you think that there is a reason not to go with NGC? A MS69 would make it worthwhile, but it'd be nice to have a chance at a 70.
Only if you submitted it in an unopened mint shipping box with a mint postmark that was in the first thirty days, other than that they don't indicate 20th anniversary set.
It means you can't open the box the Mint sends the coins to you in. It must remain sealed so they know the sets weren't tampered with. So you have to mail the original Mint box unopened to PCGS inside another box if you want them graded with the 20th Ann. labels. Ya know what I mean?
