I was watching the Home Shopping Network late last night. They had an hour dedicated to coins for sale. One of the items was a slabbed 2006-W 20th Anniv. Silver American Eagle, graded SP70 with a "Satin Finish" that they were selling for $400.... Is it just me, or is that about a couple hundred too expensive? I see 70 graded 2006-W SAE's on ebay for $99 buy-it-now all the time....
Graded by who is the question for most. To me, none of them are worth that, not even the $99. But the TV shows, rip offs all the way.
I feel that the high graded ASEs and slabbed ASEs could potentially be a disasterous investment. Even if I'm wrong, and they do well in the next five or ten years, it's doubtful that you'd ever get $400 for one from any coin shop in the future. My local coin dealer doesn't even like to make offers on them to walk ins, for fear of insulting the person. I personally buy them as bullion investments, and nothing more.
