I hate the reverse, especially. Just as with the old design, monticello is way too small to notice any detail, and the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is WAAAAy too crowded in the design. It sucks. We can thank the Va. Delegation for the lack of vision and whining about keeping Monticello & Jefferson on the coin.
And we're stuck with it for a while. The cent will probably have some sort of redesign for 2009, the quarter has its ongoing changes and a new "permanent" design in 2009. If the Presidential dollars are minted (God perish the thought), those will start shortly too. As the WWII generation continues to die off, the loudest defenders of Roosevelt on the dime will shrink. Meaning there may be consideration of redesign of that as well. Cent, dime, quarter, and dollar. (Throw out the superfluous Half Dollar) The Mint will have enough to do over the next decade or so without having to try and fight Congress over a redesign of the mandatory Jefferson/Monticello nickel.
I really like when there is a new design of a coin, but I really dont like this design. I thought they would do something a little more detailed or different on the reverese.
Get rid of that monticello design. I'm not a huge fan of the face of Jeeferson-but it's not the worst design I've ever seen. I always like to see the new designs.
I just noticed, they dont really show a rim on the obverse... Please, please include a rim. I dont much like, ok i really hate rimless coins. It makes me think the design wants to 'fall-off'.
On the plus side, maybe they'll get the frickin' steps right this time.HOW HARD CAN IT BE? OK... feel better now...
Yes, I know Notice I said "Just as with the old design". It essentially is the old design. It's supposed to provide more detail, But how much more detail can you show of Monticello at that scale?
