2006 d quarter bronze color

Anyone know why it is this color other then it being circulated?

    Exposure to the Environment will change the color of the Nickel. It's called Environmental Damage. I metal detect and have dug up plenty of Nickels that have changed color due to sand, dirt, soil, water, heat exposure.
