I have a chance to buy a 2006 $5 Gold Eagle slabbed by NGC that is graded MS70 for $100. 2007 Redbook gives a price of $65, they seem to be selling on e-bay for twice as much. I was looking for other opinions is this a buy or no buy.

    Thanks

If you like graded modern bullion, $100 is probably a good price for a 70 from NGC.

Why do you want to buy it? Before we give opinions or whether to buy or not to, I think that needs to be known. Do you just want the bullion? The coin? Would a 69 do?

Sounds like an good price if you're buying it for the coin. If you only want it for the bullion, then I'd pass.

Is that the really small gold piece? The 1/10 ounce. If so, and if you want the bullion, forget about it, and just buy raw gold or regular gold bullion ounce coins at spot.

If you are collecting the 1/10th ounces, by all means get it. Personally, I'm not found of that coin, its just too darn small for the design. If your buying it as an investment coin, PASS. The current prices are not going to hold up and the coin doesn't have that much gold.

At current gold prices you have about $65 in gold . That leaves about $35 for the slab and the coin, plus any shipping and handling. As a collectible, I would say yes it is a good price

If you plan on getting it, I would personally go for the 70 grade at the price level you are speaking of. Can not believe a 69 would be that much less.
